Reaching Out

I strongly believe that if God gives you a particular gift you should use it not only to enhance your own life, but to enhance the life of others.   Helping a community through photography reveals its power through the emotion of imagery.  Hearts can be touched, minds opened, concerned ignited.

In 2009, I photographed the homeless and working poor of St. Augustine, FL.  They generously allowed me to capture their lives in ways I never thought possible.  I didn’t ask them to pose or smile – I didn’t ask for “do-overs” – I simply asked for permission.  They gave me what they felt in that particular moment in time.  Their struggle shows in their eyes as they unknowingly reveal a glimpse of their souls.

One invidual – one shot – many emotions.

Many have viewed both the book I created via Shutterfly and the video created and edited by my husband, Ian and I.  The reaction has been heart warming and gratifying.  One gentleman, after watching the video, made a very sizable donation towards buying a mobile kitchen.  The outreach ministry of Feeding Bodies, Feeding Souls of Resurrection Protestant Episcopal Church in St. Augustine, FL will use this kitchen to reach 100′s of the hungry and homeless living in camps within the area.

God’s simple gift of photography will enable many children and adults to eat nourishing food.   What is your gift?  How can you make a difference?

Pray.  Listen.  Act.
